Baggage, baby!

For bmibaby it’s not just about getting you from A to B. We aim to put the fun back into flying. One area that we know can be stressful and confusing for travellers is baggage.

To help you we’ve simplified the process by basing it upon the total weight of the baggage required across everyone travelling together on a booking. This is instead of charging for the number of bags each person on the booking is allowed to carry.

Now, instead of cramming everything into as few bags as possible, worrying about whose case weighs what, juggling things between bags and re-packing at the airport, you can just concentrate on having a great holiday!

Here is a quick overview of the benefits of our baggage policy: Please refer to your booking confirmation or ‘Manage my booking’ online to confirm the baggage allowance weight you have purchased.

You can pool your baggage!
Does the following sound familiar? Flustered customers at check in moving personal belongings from case to case while everyone looks on because one bag is heavier than allowed...how embarrassing! If this hasn't happened to you then you've probably seen it happen to someone else.
Flying with bmibaby allows you to pool your baggage amongst all travellers on a booking who have booked to carry baggage in the hold. For example if two of you jet off on your hols, you may choose to book 22kg of baggage weight allowance each. You simply split the total 44kg however you like (up to five bags per passenger). So if one of you has a 20kg bag and the other a 24kg bag, that’s fine with us. Much much simpler we think you'll agree. All we ask is that no single bag weighs more than 32kg. 
No nasty surprises!
Prepay for excess baggage before you fly. It’s 25% cheaper if you do it online or over the phone before you get to the airport.
Squeeze in some last minute essentials!
If you have finished your packing and find you have packed more than you expected, you have a couple of choices. Either leave something behind or you can increase your baggage weight allowance in increments of 2kg up to 3 hours before departure.
Don’t put your back out!
Large cases can get really heavy and be difficult to lift in and out of cars etc. This can be a real problem for some people, especially if they have bad backs. With our new baggage policy you can spread your packing across multiple bags (maximum of 5 per person) making each one easier to manage. There’s no extra charge plus your taxi driver will be happy about not having to haul giant trunks around!

Hand baggage

So that's the baggage you are going to check into the aircraft hold sorted, so what about your hand baggage?  Well, on bmibaby you can take one piece of hand baggage on board as long at it doesn't exceed the dimensions of 55x40x20cm and has a maximum weight of 10kg.

Please remember these dimensions are based on a packed bag, including the wheels/handles  Once you have finished putting all your bits and bobs in it may be bigger than before, so make sure you double check this before you leave the house.  If it doesn't fit comfortably into one of our baggage gauges at the airport, you will have to check it into the hold and there will be an additional fee to pay to do this.

Oversized sports and musical equipment

Save £5 per item by booking your oversized equipment online compared to a higher fee at the airport or call centre. Only one oversized item can be booked online per passenger and all items are carried subject to space availability on the aircraft.
